Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a community patroller in Lenasia South.
Residents protested outside the Lenasia South police station last night after community patroller Emran Mohammad was shot during an armed robbery and later died in hospital.
Two other people were also killed in the robbery on Tuesday after criminals held up shoppers at the Shoprite along the Golden Highway.
The police’s Brenda Muridili says while they understand the community are angry over the incident, residents must not undermine the authority of the state.
Muridili says investigations are continuing.
“As the police were addressing them, some of them took chairs and tables and started burning them in the entrance of the police station. If there is an incident like the incident that they are complaining about, investigations has to be conducted. You cannot just arrest people because the community says they are criminals.”
