Police Investigating After Bus Driver Shot Dead & Vehicle Set Alight at Lawley Train Station in Lenasia

Police are investigating a case of murder and malicious damage to property after a bus driver was shot dead and his vehicle set alight at the Lawley railway station in Lenasia.

It is believed that the bus had stopped to pick up commuters on Tuesday morning when three unknown armed supsects started firing shots at the bus

Police say they arrived at the scene and found the bus on fire.

Spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters says the motive for the shooting is yet to be determined.

“An unconfirmed number of commuters were injured while attempting to alight from the bus. It is alleged the suspects then hurled a petrol bomb at the bus which caught fire, and the suspects fled the scene. The driver of the bus was fatally wounded. The injured commuters were ferried to hospital for medical attention.”

Peters has appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact the police
