Police are investigating a masjid in Ficksburg in the Free State for alleged suspicious activity.

It’s believed officers received information from the community about alleged weapons and explosives at the masjid but police would not confirm this.

Police say they obtained a warrant to search the masjid on Tuesday but would not disclose if anything was found.

Spokesperson Phumelelo Dhlamini says investigations are continuing.

“We received an intelligence driven information than we applied for a warrant and that gave us the permission to go an search at that mosque. We are not going to disclose what case we are investigating and what is it that we wanted at the mosque because it is an intelligence driven information, so we won’t disclose anything.”
