Police Appeal for Help in Nelspruit Qabrastan Body Theft Incident

January 11, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 11-01-2017

Mpumalanga police are appealing for information following the theft of the remains of two bodies at the old Nelspruit Cemetery.

The remains were reported stolen last week after a group of people visited cemetery and found two graves that had been dug open with the burial shroud still intact but the effects missing.

The bodies were buried in the 1960’s and 2013.

The police’s Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says they are investigating a case of violation of graves.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a case wherein two graves were vandalised at the cemetery in Nelspruit. We are continuing with our investigations currently so we are calling on community members to come forward and assist us.”

The Nelspruit Muslim Burial Services say they will be beefing up security at the cemetery following the incident.
