Pikitup says its Braamfontein head office has been closed with immediate effect after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement, Pikitup says in line with the National Health Department and World Health Organisation (WHO) protocols and guidelines, the office will be closed for 48 hours.
“During the closure, the office will be decontaminated and all employees who were in direct contact with the affected employee will be screened and self-isolated for 14 days. All employees stationed at the head office have been advised to work from home and will return to work on Monday.”
Pikitup says it has also learnt of another employee stationed at the Roodepoort depot who passed away in hospital over the weekend due to COVID-19.
It says employees at this depot will also follow the necessary protocols and self-isolate while the facility is decontaminated.
Pikitup says the Roodepoort depot will reopen on 22 June.
Pikitup says despite the closure of the Roodepoort depot, waste collection services in areas serviced by the depot will be provided through augmented services and garden sites in the area will also be operational as employees at such sites did not interact with the deceased employee.
