The Energy Department has announced a massive increase in the price of petrol.
From Wednesday, 3 April the price of 93 Octane petrol will increase by R 1.34 per litre while 95 Octane goes up by R 1,31.
The prices of different grades of diesel go up by 81.7 cents (for 0.05% sulphur) and 82.7 cents (0.005% sulphur) per litre while illuminating paraffin will increases by 63 cents per litre.
The price of LP gas increases by R 1.71 per kg.
The Energy department says the main reasons for the fuel price adjustments are due to the increase in the Fuel and Road Accident Fund Levies and higher Brent Crude oil prices during the period under review including the Rand depreciating on average, against the US Dollar.
It also says the increases in primary transport cost attributed to an average annual increase of 10.96 percent in road transport tariffs and an annual increase of 10.95 percent in pipeline transport costs announced by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) on the 16th of March 2019.
South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors.
