The Energy Department has confirmed that the price of petrol is going by 71 cents per litre from Wednesday.
Motorists will also have to fork out between 57 and 60 cents more for diesel.
Illuminating paraffin is going up between 73 and 98 cents a litre while LP Gas will increase by R2.04 per Kg.
The department says the country’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors.
“International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including shipping costs.”
It says the main reason for the increase is the weakening of the rand against the dollar
“The Rand depreciated against the US Dollar from R13.62 to R14.10, on average, during the period under review when compared to the previous one.”
