Palestinian president Abbas in hospital again

Concerns have been raised over the health of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after he was admitted to hospital for the third time in a week over the weekend.

Abbas’ office confirmed that the 82-year-old was being cared for at a health facility in Ramallah, although no details on his condition were given.

According to Palestine’s WAFA news agency, Abbas underwent minor ear surgery last Tuesday, before being briefly re-admitted again on Friday, the same day he was due to attend an extraordinary Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Turkey.

The Palestinian leader is a known as a heavy smoker and has a long history of health issues, ranging from the heart to prostate.
