Police have confirmed one suspect has been shot dead following a robbery at a supermarket in Lenasia South.
It’s understood three armed suspects entered the convenience store on Monday and held up the 69-year-old shopkeeper before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police say the shopkeeper triggered the panic button which alerted security companies and patrollers to the robbery who cornered one suspect at a nearby house.
The police’s Kalipha Mvula says a case of attempted murder inquest and business robbery is being investigated.
“As the patrollers were busy searching the house, it is alleged that the suspect opened fire on the patrollers and one of the patrollers sustained a gunshot wound on the upper body. The alleged robber unfortunately died on the scene as he had sustained gunshot wound as a result of exchange of gunfire.”
Mvula says the injured patroller has been rushed to a local hospital in serious but stable condition while the other two robbery suspects are still on the run.
