One person has been killed and five others injured after a building collapsed in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

It’s believed a section of the overhanging balcony at the building on the corner of Yusuf Dadoo and Dr Goonam streets in the Durban CBD collapsed on Tuesday.

KZN Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says several people were trapped under the rubble when emergency services arrived on the scene.

“An overhanging veranda collapse to the pavement; tragically one person sustained fatal injuries and paramedics are still on the scene treating several patients. The exact cause of the collapse is not yet known.”

Mckenzie says the patients were treated for injuries sustained and once stabilised were rushed to hospital for further care.
