A 104-year old Indonesian woman believed to be the world’s oldest pilgrim has arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the annual hajj.
Ibu Mariah Marghani Muhammad landed at the King Abdulaziz International Airport Jeddah on Saturday night.
She was welcomed by director of the operations room at the ministry of culture and information Abdulkhaliq al-Zahrani including the Indonesian counsel in Jeddah, Mohammed Sharif Deen and chief of the Indonesian pilgrimage mission Arshad Hadia.
Ibu Mariah who performed Umrah when she was 90-years-old told officials she was finally going to perform hajj.
Alhamdulillah [praise be to God], I am going to Mecca. Alhamdulillah, I am going to Hajj.”
In a statement Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture and Information say Officials at the Indonesian Consulate reports that Ibu Mariah was in “good health and will be able to perform her Hajj rituals without any problems.
“Saudi Arabia warmly welcomes Ibu Mariah. The Hajj is the spiritual highlight in the life of every Muslim. At the age of 104, it is remarkable for Ibu Mariah to be here. We wish her well.”
More than two million people from across the globe are expected to perform hajj this year.
