NPA to Investigate India PM Narendra Modi for Alleged Human Rights Violations

July 10, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 10-07-2018

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed it will investigate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged involvement in war crimes and human rights violations in Kashmir.

The Muslim Lawyers Association (MLA) lodged an official complaint with the NPA and want Modi arrested when he attends the BRICS summit later this month in Johannesburg.

The organization contends there is sufficient evidence to establish a case against Modi for alleged extra-judicial murders, rape and other human right violations.

In a letter to the organisation, the NPA says it has decided to focus on the UN report in order to investigate the allegations against Modi and establish if the Rome Statute, Geneva Convention and Preventing and Combatting of torture of persons have been contravened.

MLA spokesperson Yousha Tayob says they welcome the NPA’s decision to investigate Modi.

“The acknowledgment of the complaint and the allocation of a docket and a case number and the letter dated 9 July indicating that they will investigate is a positive response and we remain hopeful that something will arise from this.”
