North West Premier Job Mokgoro says he’s appalled by an incident of racial segregation at a primary school in the province.
A photograph emerged on social media yesterday showing a group of white Grade R pupils sitting together at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke while their four black classmates sat at a small table near the door.
Mokgoro has instructed education MEC Sello Lehari to meet with the management of the North West school on Thursday following the allegations of racism.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Mokgorro’s spokesperson Vuyisile Ngesi says if the photo is proven to be authentic, action will have to be taken.
“We will have to look at what the law says, what regulations are saying and then we’ll have to take action in accordance with what is stipulated in the law.”
Ngesi says the North West Provincial Government condemns any form of racism alleged or not in the strongest possible terms and its deeply regrettable that such incidents are still witnessed 25-years after democracy.
