Police officer arrests a criminal on the street

A grim discovery in the North West has led to the arrest of a man who allegedly kidnapped and murdered his 2-year-old daughter.

According to News 24, the body of the little girl was found in the ceiling of the man’s home in Alabama near Klerksdorp.

“According to information at our disposal, on Thursday, the suspect went to Extension 20, Jouberton, to his girlfriend’s place and took their daughter without the consent of the mother. It is alleged that the mother was in hospital when the suspect took the child,” police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said.

On being discharged, the mother immediately began searching for the toddler and opened a case for a missing person at the Jouberton Police station.

According to Funani, the father was taken into custody on Sunday when he failed to disclose the whereabouts of the child.

By Monday, a foul smell coming from the man’s house alerted the neighbours and forced them to enter the property to investigate. The child’s body was found by the neighbours.

“It is alleged that the neighbours found the lifeless body of the child and called the police. The father, who was already in custody, was then charged with her murder,” Funani said.

The 47-year-old attended court on Wednesday.
