With the resumption of Umrah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, a spokesperson for the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques says there have been no reported COVID-19 infections among Umrah pilgrims.
In a statement the presidency’s spokesperson says about 24,000 worshipers entered the haram, none of whom showed any symptoms of the Coronavirus commending the pilgrims for respecting the rules, regulations and preventive measures of COVID-19.
The spokesman also says the presidency focused on four main elements — prevention, disinfection, evacuation and awareness — as part of its plan to resume Umrah.
The authorities announced the gradual resumption of Umrah on October 4, after it was suspended in mid-March as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus in the Kingdom.
Citizens and residents are allowed to perform Umrah at 30 percent capacity, or 6,000 pilgrims a day, which will be increased in a phased manner.
