No Injuries After Fire Breaks Out at Houghton Masjid

Emergency services say no one was injured after a fire broke out at a mosque in Houghton, Johannesburg. 

Its understood the blaze broke out on Friday afternoon on the top floor of Masjid Furqaan. .

Emergency services Nana Radebe says the blaze was extinguished by worshippers before rescue workers arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

“Yesterday afternoon we received a call that there’s a fire at a mosque in Houghton. When we arrived on scene, the people at the mosque had already extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire could not be investigated as when we arrived the fire had already been extinguished.”

In a statement, Masjid Furqaan says while salaah will continue as normal on the ground floor of the masjid, the top section would be closed until further notice due to the damages caused by the fire.
