No Injuries After Dome of Durban’s West Street Masjid Collapses

August 18, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 18-08-2017

No injuries were reported after the dome of the West Street Masjid in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal collapsed.

It’s believed the dome of the masjid toppled last night due to high gale force winds in Durban and the coastal areas which caused structural damages to a number of buildings in the CBD.

Radio Islam presenter Moulana Junaid Kharsany who resides in Durban says the incident was reported by the Muezzin in the early hours of Friday morning.

Ml. Kharsany says The West Street Masjid which is more than one hundred years old suffered significant structural damage.

“The dome of the structure which was assumedly put into place in the 1960’s was toppled over during the course of the high gale force wind. The trustees and the committee are currently working on putting in back in place.”
