Tsogo Sun Controversy Rises The Ire Of Muslims

August 15, 2016

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2016-08-15

Tsogo Sun says it has made no claims about the Elangeni and Maharani Hotels in KwaZulu-Natal as being halaal.

Radio Islam is in possession of a statement from Samantha Croft, the General Manager of the two hotels who says that they have never advertised the establishments as being halaal.

Croft claims that guests were made aware of the hotels status’

“What we’ve always said to our guests is that we can never be halaal, we are part of a gaming company, we serve alcohol and we serve pork.”

However, she says that all meat products are purchased from halaal certified suppliers.

“We have certification available for viewing at the hotel, should guests ask to see it.”

Croft says that the hotel practices pork separation.

“The pork products are stored in a separate area and they are received in a separate area and all utensils which are used in the pork area are marked with red.”

Concerns have been raised about alleged cross-contamination of food at the two hotels following an incident where two Muslim culinary students were denied from continuing their internships after allegedly refusing to shave off their beards.
