The Jamiatul Ulama South Gauteng Branch has announced that the Eidgaah which culminates the end of the blessed month of Ramadan will not take place this year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the organisation’s Ml Yusuf Wadee says there was much consultation on the matter before a decision was reached.
“An appeal is therefore made to all Masaajid committee members to make arrangements for Eid Salaah at their respective masaajid. Inshallah, as soon as the situation allows, Eid Salaah will resume at the Eidgaah.”
Under the current lockdown level one, only 250 people are allowed to gather indoors at places of worship while five hundred are allowed outdoors.
The annual Eidgaah which has not been performed for the past year usually attracts thousands of people.
Ml Wadee has urged the Muslim community in South Africa to make dua that Allah Ta’ala protect us and remove this pandemic from South Africa and the world.
Depending on the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to take place on the 14th of May.
