The man from Carnation Avenue in Lenasia was arrested last week for allegedly selling the 2012 matric results. He allegedly charged eager matric pupils R 30 to view the results from a segment of the Sowetan newspaper hours before they were officially released on Wednesday night.
Media outlets were given copies of the results, but were only able to publish them from 6am on Thursday morning
The department’s Panyaza Lesufi said he hopes it was an isolated incident. “I am crossing my fingers this is not widespread and that it is an isolated incident," said Lesufi.
Lesufi added, “We are taking it very, very serious. It will affect future relations with the Sowetan and whether the Sowetan will have the right to issue results or not.”
