Coronavirus: Nigeria’s Largest Airline Lays off Pilots, Cuts Salaries

August 05, 2020

Nigeria’s largest airline Air Peace has laid off pilots due to the impact of the coronavirus on its operations. Nigeria, as well as cities in West Africa and the Middle East are serviced by the airline. Salaries have also been cut at Air Peace.

While the airline has not provided a figure on how many pilots have been retrenched, according to News24, industry sources put the figure at around 70.

The group said it had taken the very painful decision to terminate the employment of some of its pilots as a result of the devastating effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on its financial health.

It said, “Anything short of what we have done may lead to the collapse of an airline as could be seen in some places worldwide during this period. Therefore, we decided to review the salaries being paid to all staff.”
