NGO’s & Government Must Come Clean About Shiraaz Mohamed Kidnapping – Abramjee

March 09, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 09-03-2017

Social cohesive activist Yusuf Abramjee says NGO’s need to take responsibility and come clean about what happened to Lenasia South photojournalist Shiraaz Mohamed.

Mohamed was kidnapped near the border with Turkey more than two months ago as he was returning home after accompanying the Gift of the Givers on a humanitarian mission.

Last month Cape Town based NGO Truth Collective South Africa’s Director Bakar al-Maharmeh was quoted as saying that Mohammad was alive and that plans were under way to get him back home within the next month.

“Shiraaz is alive, we’ve got a video and a picture of him from the rebel side to ensure he’s alive. I never went to the rebel side, I went through the Syrian government, who are supporting this issue because of the agreed relationship with South Africa.”

With more than a month since the statement was made by Maharmeh, Mohamed has still not been found or been returned to South Africa.

Social cohesive activist Yusf Abramjee says the circumstances surrounding Mohamed’s kidnapping is suspicious.

“I think the organisation that took him, the Gift of the Givers needs to give the public an honest and reliable feedback. Also very worrying is the fact that Truth Collective South Africa promised they were busy with Shiraaz’s release in what is called a prisoner swap. Whether that was a lie or whether it simply a PR mechanism or whether it’s the truth needs to come out.”

Abramjee says there is massive public support for Shiraaz to be returned to South Africa and that NGO’s and government must take the responsibility to get him home.
