Natural remedies for menstrual/period pain

Menstrual cramps will affect most women at some point in their lives. The symptoms can annoyingly make your day unpleasant or become so severe that your regular routine is disrupted. To ease the pain and discomfort associated with this condition, consider the following home remedies for menstrual cramps:

 

Regular Exercise:

Ease painful menstrual cramping by embracing sessions of routine exercise, as this practice increases the release of endorphins – one of your body’s natural methods of killing pain.

 

Hot Water Bottle:
Place a hot water bottle on your stomach to relieve cramps.

 

Parsley:
Parsley not only increases menstruation and aids in regulating a monthly period, but parsley juice also treats painful cramping. Blend and drink 75 millilitres of parsley, beet, carrot, and cucumber juices for maximum results.

 

Ginger:
During times of a painful menstruation, use ginger as an effective home remedy. Pound a piece of ginger and boil it in a cup of water for a couple of minutes. Sweeten the infusion with sugar and drink three times daily after meals.

 

Cinnamon:
The anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties associated with cinnamon can ease the symptoms of menstrual cramping. Sprinkle cinnamon on your breakfast foods or add to a tea.

 

Coriander/Dhania seeds
In half liter of water, put 6 grams of coriander seeds and boil it until only half the quantity remains. Sweeten the decoction, with sugar or honey, and have it when warm.

 

Essential Oils
Topical application of essential oils can be used to provide relief for severe menstrual cramps. Peppermint, lavender, chamomile, ginger, cypress and basil are some of the most effective. Other essential oils that can give relief for menstrual cramps include rosemary, sage and tarragon. Lemon, grapefruit and juniper may help relieve the bloating that some women experience along with cramping.

 

Muscle Relaxants
Lavender, chamomile, ginger and lemon balm are essential oils, which contain natural muscle relaxants. Make a massage oil to rub gently over the abdominal area by mixing two or three drops of the essential oil of your choice into an ounce of sweet almond oil.

 

Some more tips….

Everyone has olive oil in the kitchen, so all we need to do is take some of that, warm it up a little and rub the stomach, lie down for about 15-20 minutes. That will calm the abdomen pain. Another option is to eat 1 banana once the cramps start.

 

Eat yogurt daily when you have menstruation; that should help the cramps. Swallow 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar 3 times daily, with every meal. Avoid foods that may cause constipation, especially in the last week of the menstrual cycle. This includes fried foods, sour foods and protein-rich pulses. Take a calcium and magnesium supplement daily.
