Naptosa Condemns Durban Teachers Use of K-Word for Black People

August 30, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 30-08-2018

The National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) has condemned the remarks of a Durban teacher after a racist rant during class where she called black people the k-word.

Danielle de Bruyn from The Westville Girls’ High School teacher resigned on Monday after an incident last week in which she is accused of calling black people the k-word.

The school issued a statement insisting that her “loss of control and bigoted view” was not congruent with the ethos of the school.

Naptosa’s Thirona Moodley the conduct by de Bruyn is unacceptable.

“Teachers are standing in front of the classroom and they have the ability and the potential to actually mould young minds into responsible citizens of our country. To have this kind of conduct in a classroom is very disturbing. It’s also disappointing in that we have respect for teachers as being professionals.”

Moodley says teachers need to be objective in classrooms and not show any political bias.
