While South Africans are concerned about the high crime rate, a new mobile emergency app has taken the country by storm being downloaded more than fifteen thousand times.
The Namola mobile emergency app which was first launched last year allows users to alert their nearest police officers when they are in need of assistance.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) were the first to use Namola over a year ago.
Namola chief ambassador Yusuf Abramjee says with all the problems at the 10111 police call centres, Namola is the solution.
“This app is the latest weapon in the fight against crime. Smartphone users can download the app free and press one button during an emergency. We guarantee a call back time of under 90 seconds and authorities are immediately alerted.”
While the app is only available in Gauteng at the moment, Abramjee says plans are underway to roll the app out nationally while foreign counties have started to show interest.
“We have to embrace technology and we hope to take Namola to every corner of South Africa this year.”
Abramjee says Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has encouraged the use of technology in the fight against crime.
He says Namola increases response times by up to 10 minutes and can save lives.
Namola is available for both Android and iOS devices.
