March 07, 2013

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-03-07

A 23 year old Muslim man from Bosmont, Thabiet Samodien was brutally stoned, stabbed and killed by smash and grabbers after Maghrib (7:30pm) on Wednesday at the Gordon Road off-ramp on the N1 highway, west of Johannesburg.

According to Moulana Anees Kara from Radio Islam’s Rescue 786 Paramedic Service who was the first to arrive at the scene said Samodien was with his wife Shakirah at the Gordon road off-ramp robot when the attack took place.

Moulana Kara says Shakirah told him that Thabiet was on his mobile phone when allegedly 3 black males accosted him and one grabbed his mobile phone through an open window of his car. Samodien chased one of the robbers for 250m and eventually caught up with him where a fight ensued.

During the brawl, the two other black males crept up behind Samodien, overpowered him and all three men then started severely beating him. Meanwhile Shakirah drove away from the scene to seek help from the Florida police and family members.

According to Samodien's uncle Reeza Hartley, after savagely and brutally assaulting Thabiet, the culprits allegedly stabbed him three times in the head, flung him into a ditch and threw a rock on his head. His half naked body was found by police with severe head injuries and all his personal belongings missing. He died at the scene.

Reeza said the family is devastated by the loss of Samodien, more so Shakira as she and Thabiet were only married for four months.

Florida police are investigating.
