August 10, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 10-08-2018

The Muslim community of South Africa are heartbroken following the news of the passing away of Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks.

Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) President Irafaan Abrahams announced the passing of Ml Hendricks the Former President of the MJC after a long illness in Cape Town late on Friday night.

Ml Hendricks who was 54-years-old served as president of the MJC for 10 years and 7 years as deputy prior to that.

He was born in September 1964 to parents, Mohammed Salih and Ruwayda Hendricks in the Boland town of Worcester, where he did his early schooling.

Ml Hendricks’ father made sure that from a very early age, Madressah education was a very important part of his educational programme and that the identity of Islam remained a very strong identity in their home.

In his pursuit of Islamic knowledge, Ml Hendricks found inspiration in Sheikh Mohammad Shah and the influence of Sheikh Ikramudeen.

In late 1979 Ml Hendricks decided to further his studies, and went to Newcastle where he came into contact with the late Ml Qaasim Sema (RA).

Ml Hendricks spent 3 years in Newcastle where he was taught by Mufti AK Hoosen, Ml Sulayman Goga, Ml Manssorul Haq and Ml Mumtazul Haq amongst others.

After 3 years, Ml Hendricks decided to further his studies overseas, and was greatly inspired by the life story of Sheikh Abul Hasan Ali and Nadwi who happened to be the rector of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow, India.

In 1993, Ml Hendricks left South Africa once again for Malaysia and joined the International Islamic University for postgraduate studies in Malaysia.

Radio Islam’s Programme Manager Ml Sulaimaan Ravat says the entire Radio Islam staff are shattered by the passing of Ml Hendricks.

Ml Ravat says Ml Hendricks had dedicated his life to Khidmah and to the service of the deen of Islam.

“He will be particularly remembered for his services towards conscientizing the Ummah in South Africa about the plight of the Palestinians. His drive and his enthusiasm when it came to educating the masses and as far as the Palestinian cause is concerned and the vigour and the strength that he showed when having to combat anti-Palestinian forces and when having to combat the anti-Palestinian narrative in mainstream media and other platforms.”

The funeral of Marhoom Ml Ihsaan Hendricks  will leave 11 Oasis Road, Hazendal on 11 August at 16:15 for Johnson Road Cemetery.

May Allah accept his services for deen, for the liberation of Palestine and may Allah grant his family sabr and may Allah grant him the highest abode in the Jannatul Firdous Insha’Allah Ameen.
