Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Ismail Menk says while every person has a desire for material wealth, some Muslims who have an excessive and unlimited desire for material wealth have lost the plot.

Mufti Menk was speaking during the 9th Seerah Jalsah at the Nurul Islam Masjid in Lenasia on Saturday.

The Seerah Jalsah touches on the blessed life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) educating & enlightening people about his beautiful example.

Mufti Menk says some Muslims today are consumed by excessive material gain striving to own the latest car, mobiles phones, air conditioning and the latest carpets amongst other possessions.

He says if Allah wanted Muhammad (SAW) to own such possessions, He would have decreed it, but such worldly items are irrelevant.

“We are running behind things that the best and the closest to Allah never ever had. They are irrelevant material items that are not important at all when it comes to your relationship with Allah.”

Mufti Menk also says technology is not bad if it is used to bring a person closer to Allah.

“If it is used to distract you from Allah, you’ve lost. It’s not something you should be running after as though you have now forgotten that the true thing I’m supposed to be running after is Jannatul Firdous, the Sunnah of Muhammad (SAW).”

Mufti Menk made dua that Allah help the ummah appreciate the technology and facilities that people have if it is used for the benefit of the ummah.
