The Competition Commission has announced that it has reached an agreement with mobile service provider MTN to drop data prices.
The agreement follows discussions between the commission and MTN after the commission initiated the Data Services Market Inquiry (DSMI) and published its final report with findings and recommendations in December 2019.
According to the agreement, One GB of 30-day data bundles will cost R99 instead R160 for MTN customers.
MTN will also implement retail price reductions across all its retail channels, communicate these reductions to all channel partners, and apply these new prices across its channels.
The network will also offer all its customers a daily free data bundle to use in Ayoba, which will be capped.
