A 32-year-old Lenasia man claims he was stabbed by striking taxi drivers on the N1 highway in full view of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers who allegedly failed to protect him.
It understood Nadeem Hoosen was travelling to work on Wednesday when traffic came to a standstill near the Beyers Drive, with taxi’s blocking the highway and a convoy of JMPD officers monitoring the situation.
Hoosen claims he was running late for work and asked one of the taxi drivers to please move his vehicle so he could pass through.
He claims this is when a group of taxi drivers allegedly attacked him while he was sitting in his car and in full view of JMPD officers who were sitting in a patrol car right next his.
“They all jumped out of their taxis and they started attacking me. The metro police officer then told the taxi driver kill this f****** makula. So what happened after that, they tried to pull me out of the car and they stabbed me twice in my arm and they bruised my arms quite badly as well”
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says the incident is under investigation.
“This information has been passed on to internal affairs for the incident to be investigated.”
Hoosen says he eventually managed to pass the taxi blockade and drove to the Waterfall Clinic in Midrand where he was treated for his injuries.
