Motion of No Confidence Tabled Against Jacob Zuma at ANC NEC

May 27, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 27-05-2017

Another motion of no confidence has been tabled against President Jacob Zuma at the African National Congress’ (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) meeting despite secretary general Gwede Mantashe telling journalists earlier that the motion was not on the agenda.

News 24 is reporting that Zuma is fighting for political survival after at least four sources with direct knowledge of events inside the closed NEC meeting confirmed that NEC member Joel Netshitenzhe tabled a motion for Zuma to step down.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, his deputy Joe Phaahla and axed tourism minister Derek Hanekom spoke out in support of Netshitenzhe’s motion.

An inside source told News24 Netshitenzhe argued that the case against Zuma had “worsened” since Hanekom’s call in November 2016 for him to go.

“He mentioned all the things we read about in the news: The Cabinet reshuffle, the downgrade [to junk status], the reports on state capture… the litany of problems all linked to him [Zuma].”

Netshitenzhe is a former head of the government’s communications department, the GCIS.

The meeting which adjourned on Saturday is expected to continue on Sunday.

Meanwhile a trail of emails between the Gupta family and their employees has blown the lid off how they have managed to do business with government, ingratiate themselves with senior officials, and go so far as to help move President Jacob Zuma and his family to Dubai.

The emails, obtained by City Press this week, also reveal how the Guptas seduced a number of senior state actors in their bid to capture government departments and state-owned entities.
