MLA Calls for Arrest of Russian President for Human Rights Violations

July 18, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 18-07-2018

The Muslim Lawyers Association says the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions has acknowledged receipt of the official complaint against Russian President Vladimir Putin for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The organisation is calling for the arrest Putin when he visits South Africa for the Brics summit which takes place at the Sandton convention centre in Johannesburg next week.

It’s calling for the NDPP to investigate Putin and bring him to trial for his alleged involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Dubbed the Putin docket, the organisation says there is more than sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against Putin for war crimes, crimes against humanity inflicted upon Syrian civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The organisations Yousha Tayob says there are many witnesses and international reports to drive a successful investigation, prosecution and arrest of Putin.

“We have extensive evidence from the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) who provided us with witness statements indicating the damage to civilians and civilian infrastructure where the Russian armed forces have paired up with (Bashar Al) Assad and are complementing these war crime and crimes against humanity in Syria.”

The MLA also lodged a complaint with the NDPP against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged involvement in war crimes and human rights violations in Kashmir.
