Renowned Islamic Scholar Moulana Sulaiman Moola has told Radio Islam, the situation in Myanmar is so catastrophic that even Ulama have fled the country.
Ml Moola is accompanying the Al Imdaad Foundation to provide much needed aid to the Rohingya Muslims.
More then 410,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar which many world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly have described as ethnic cleansing and genocide.
Ml Moola says he was told by Muslims scholars of Myanmar that the Islamic madrassa system has been completely destroyed.
“The kind of challenges they mentioned to me made tears trickle down my eyes. The Ulama mentioned to me that their Madaaris and institutions was demolished and overnight they had to leave.”
Ml Moola says the Ulama fled with nothing but the clothes on their back even leaving their families behind.
“That scholar teared and said Sheikh, the truth be told when we fled, we had to leave in the cover of night. We did’nt have adequate funds to take the entire family on a boat, and not a fancy boat, not a vessel, not a fishing boat, but rather some simple means of transport.”
The crisis has prompted condemnation of the country’s de-facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, for refusing to blame Myanmar’s powerful military for the crackdown, which French President Emmanuel Macron said amounted to “genocide”
