Ml Ighsaan Hendricks: Does the DA Have a “Romantic Relationship” with Israel?

May 31, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 31-05-2018

The former President of the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) has raised concerns about whether the Democratic Alliance (DA) has a “romantic relationship” with Israel and Zionists.

Moulana Ighsaan Hendricks was speaking to Radio Islam about the current crisis in Gaza, the resolution taken at the Africa National Congress’s (ANC) 54th national conference to downgrade the South African embassy in Israel and the DA’s decision to slam the government about the recall of South Africa’s ambassador to Israel, Sisa Ngombane saying it made a mistake.

At least 61 Palestinians were shot dead and 2 400 injured after the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) fired live ammunition in Gaza during a protest against the inauguration of the United States embassy in Jerusalem.

Ml Hendricks says the South African community is politically matured enough to understand that they should not tolerate opposition coming from DA, a party whose defied the South African government.

“What is the love relationship, is there a romantic relationship between the Democratic Alliance of South Africa and the rogue state of Israel and the Zionists? Examine that type of romantic relationship and see where this relationship is going to take future aspirations for such people in South Africa.”

At the same time he says the ANC has a long standing standing record in their contribution towards the Palestinian struggle for freedom and liberation.

Ml Hendricks says unlike any other country in the world, the ANC and many former liberation movements in South Africa have maintained a conducive environment for activists to continue their awareness and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

However Ml Hendricks says the South African community must continue pressurising the government and the ruling party to make sure that the Palestinian struggle is never compromised.

“That is why there is no confusion around the fact that the African National Congress and I’m not a member of the African National Congress, but I think the fact is the fact, they have supported the Palestinian people and of course we are reciprocating as they have supported us.”

Ml Hendricks says Masjid Aqsa remains in danger and has appealed to South Africans that in spite of all the challenges Palestinians are facing, they will one day prevail in their struggle for freedom.
