MiWay Insurance says independent forensic auditors has proved a racist email allegedly originating from a staff member is fake.
A screen shot from an email surfaced last week on social media purporting to be from a claims assessor writing that a managerial decision had been taken to reject 90 percent of claims by black people as they were “easy targets” and “baboons”.
Danny Myburgh, Managing Director of Cyanre – The Digital Forensic Lab, which conducted the forensic audit, stated says the email was manipulated.
“We can confirm, after a detailed investigation, that an email sent from a MiWay employee was manipulated by an external source. The image circulating on social media is a fabrication.”
MiWay CEO, René Otto says the audit has also identified the individual responsible and would not immediately be publishing the results of the forensic audit.
“To be fair, we have decided (to) provide the client with the opportunity to respond first. Once we have received feedback, we will be in a position to elaborate on the way forward.”
Otto says the man had a policy with MiWay and tried to get a claim but the claim was rejected because it didn’t comply with the conditions of the policy.
