August 06, 2013

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-08-06

The gruesome murder of Rashida and Mohammad Hoosein Laher on Monday night after the Taraweeh Salaah (special night prayer during the month of Ramadaan) on Isfahan Street in Azaadville has left the community and Muslims reeling in shock.

A resident living on the property with the Laher's discovered the bodies of the 66 year old mother and her 37 year old son. The screams of the resident alerted the neigbours.

A member of the Azaadville Neighbourhood Watch told Radio Islam that he got a call just after 9:15pm on Monday night from a neighbor to say there was a robbery and a possible murder.

“When we got to the scene, we found the bedrooms had been ransacked and the mother and son both were tied up and straggled very badly and beaten as well,” said the neighbourhood watch member.

The member of the Azzadville Neighbourhood Watch who wants to remain anonymous said that on inspection they discovered that both mother and son had passed away.

The police were called and arrived on the scene within ten minutes. “According to an eyewitness, the maid did jump in the car with those guys in a (silver) Honda CRV with a CA registration,” said the member.

It’s alleged the maid is of foreign descent and may have been involved in the murders.

The Azaadville Neighborhood Watch is offering a R 20,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. They have urged anyone that has information to please contact the organization or the South African Police Services.

Police are investigating.
