Menlyn Mall Gets New Musallah

June 25, 2014

Muslim shoppers at Menlyn Mall Shopping Centre and residents of Pretoria East will have access to a new Musallah facility to read their daily salaah.

Medina Musallah @ Menlyn Mall was officially opened and inaugurated by Sheikh Yahya al-Ninonwy from the Medina Institute in Cape Town on 23rd June.

Abu Bakr Carrim, a resident of Pretoria East, told Radio Islam there was a need for a musallah in the Merlyn Mall Shopping Centre as there were many Muslims in the area that required a place to read their salaah.

“The idea actually erupted from Dubai where we heard a beautiful athaan in a shopping mall and with our relationship with the mall (Menlyn), we actually perused this venture with them,” said Carrim.

Carrim said the first Musallah in Menlyn Mall was opened in 2010 which catered for about 80 people which eventually became too small for the number of musallee’s.

The Menlyn Mall then underwent a renovations and management provided a bigger facility that could cater for more musallee’s, 215 to be precise.

“It’s much more spacious and there are lovely ladies facilities. Alhamdulillah this has been the centre of establishing a little community for the Pretoria East musallees. ” said Carrim.

For those that visit the Menlyn Mall Shopping Centre, the musallah is located at Parking Level 3, very close to entrance number 4.

The musallah caters for all salaah including Jumu’ah salaah except Fajr and also for salaah on auspicious nights.

Carrim said taraweeh would also be conducted at the Musallah during the month of Ramadaan.
