An Islamic scholar residents has told Radio Islam the situation in Mahikeng is extremely volatile with many people fearing for their lives.
There’ve been rolling protests in Mahikeng and surrounding villages this week with rampant residents calling on Premier Supra Mahumapelo to step down.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will today intervene in the deadly North West protest which has centred around dissatisfaction over Mahumapelo.
Ramaphosa has expressed his concern after a man died in a clash with protestors who were trying to evade police officers during a looting spree yesterday.
Ml Ebrahim Angamia says all schools, business and banks have closed due to the ongoing violence.
“We had word that many, many of the foreigners, not only foreigners but whoever, even if it was locals, whoever had little shops and even had petrol stations just surrounding Mahikeng, they were looted very badly (sic).”
Ml Angamia has urged people remember the residents of Mahikeng in their duas.
“Insha’Allah we just request everybody to make dua for all Insha’Allah that Allah eases the situation for everybody.”
