The Basic Education Department has announced that the results for the 2017 matric exams will be released by the Minister of Education on 4 January 2018.
The department says pupils will be able to collect their results at schools and examination centres on 5 January 2018.
The matric exams drew to a close on Tuesday and according to the DBE, a total of 802 636 candidates, 634 527 of those who are full-time pupils, sat for the examination that began on 16 October.
Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga says the exams were free of any major incident.
“The department would like to thank those learners and the commitment of teachers who worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that candidates were prepared and that the integrity of the NSC examinations continues to be upheld.”
The DBE says the task of marking millions of examination scripts has already begun in Gauteng and Limpopo with the remaining provinces expected to commence on Wednesday.
