Mashaba Commits Administration to ‘Forgotten’ People of Joburg

May 04, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 04-05-2017

Mayor Herman Mashaba has described his predecessor Parks Tau’s administration as one of self-enrichment, mismanagement and incorrect priorities and has promised not to do the same.

Mashaba was speaking at his first State of the City address as mayor in Johannesburg yesterday.

Mashaba says his administration had inherited “enormous challenges” and was working on rebuilding trust with residents by making changes to legislation that would help Johannesburg’s forgotten people.

Mashaba says he’s committing his administration and term in office to the forgotten people of Johannesburg.

“In the past many people were left behind, this were the forgotten people. They just thought as residents of the city that they were entitled to a government that cared for them. They were treated liked the city was doing them a favour by receiving their calls or complaints. This administration is going to focus on the forgotten people of our city.”

At the same time Mashaba told Radio Islam he is disappointed by the high levels of corruption by the previous administration.

“Corruption in the ANC has been part and parcel of what has been happening in particular the past ten years. But it has reached a stage where in the city of Johannesburg corruption was already institutionalised where the leadership of the previous government decided to turn a blind eye allowing everyone to loot the city.”

Mashaba says he has given a commitment to the residents of Johannesburg that by 2021 if the economy of the country is not growing by 5% they can vote him out of office.
