Police are investigating after an unidentified man was found dead in an open veld in Lenasia, Extension 10 opposite the Hudson Street Masjid, South of Johannesburg.

“We found the body of man with multiple gunshot wounds and we have opened a case of murder,” said the police’s Kay Makhubela.

Makhubela said the motive for the killing is unknown has appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

A resident who lives close to the area told Radio Islam that he heard two gunshots just after midnight.

However it is not clear if this was related to the man that was found.

Last year November in the same area, 48 year-old prominent community member Riad Malek was shot outside his son’s home.

The father of four was shot and killed when he was accosted by six armed men who tried to hijack his vehicle.
