Police are investigating a case of murder after a 40-year-old man was allegedly assaulted at a drug rehabilitation centre Magaliesburg.
It’s understood Muhammad Sheikh was admitted to the facility last month where he was allegedly assaulted by staff and patients in an attempt to restrain him because he was having drug withdrawal symptoms.
Sheikh was admitted to the Leratong hospital and then to the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital in Lenasia where he died on Sunday.
The police’s Rebecca Phithi says investigations into the alleged assault are continuing.
“This person was assaulted at Crescent of Hope and a case of assault GBH was opened and the person was admitted at hospital whereby later he passed on at the hospital and the case of murder was then opened.”
