Makkah Prepares for Last Ten Days of Ramadan

June 20, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-06-20

As the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan approach, officials in Makkah, Saudi Arabia are working around the clock to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

Arab News reports, Government bodies in the Kingdom are preparing the Haram its yards and roofs in anticipation for the final days which is also considered among the busiest in a year.

The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques has supplied the mosque with huge amounts of carpets, copies of the Qur’an, water coolers and waste containers to prepare all available spaces for worshippers whose numbers are expected to increase dramatically during the last 10 days.

The northern yards of the expanded Haram are at maximum alert to provide services and prepare locations.

Security forces concerned with managing crowds aim to use empty spaces in the expansion to prevent stampedes and regulate entry and exit flows, in addition to preventing people from performing prayers in thoroughfares and sitting in hallways.

The last ten days of Ramadan is considered more auspicious as Muslims seek the “night of power” which is Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said is better than a thousand months.

Some Muslim men also seclude themselves in Masaajid following the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
