The South African National Qur’an Committee (SANQC) has confirmed the Imam and khateeb of Masjidul Haram in Makkah, Sheikh Maher bin Hamad Al Muaiqly will be a guest at this years competition.
SANQC in conjunction with the Religious Attaché of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia will be hosting the 11th National Qur’an Memorization Competition Finals 1437/2016 at the Nizamiye Masjid in Midrand on Saturday 30th July 2016.
The program for the public will commence after Maghrib salaah and will also be broadcast live on Radio Islam and iTV.
About 21 contestants have qualified for the finals after winning their respective provincial competitions hosted by the SANQC earlier this year.
The adjudicators include some of the most senior reciters of the Noble Qur’an in South Africa, which include Qari Ayoob Essack, Qari Basheer Patel, Qari Rashid Ahmed Dhabelia and another 4th judge.
Coordinator of SANQC Qari Basheer Patel says the format of choosing a winner which will represent South Africa at the 40th King Abdul Aziz International Qur’an Memorisation Competition this year has changed.
The competition will be held inside the Haram in Makkah Al Mukhharrama later this year.
“From this year it changed. Only one contestant will go through to Makkah and compete Insha’Allah. So we have three categories (5 juz, 15 juz & full Qur’an) and we are working on a formula from amongst the winners to decide which one would be selected to go through.”
The momentous occasion will also be attended by the secretary general of the King Abdul Aziz International Holy Qur’an Memorization competition Dr. Mansour Alsumayh, Sheikh ul Qurra – Jaamiah Islamiyah Taleemudeen Dabhel Qari Ahmadullah Al-Qasmi, government dignitaries, members of the diplomatic core and other community leaders.
The master of ceremonies for the event will be Mufti Ismail Menk.
