The South African National Qur’an Committee (SANQC) in conjunction with the Religious Attaché of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia will be hosting the 9th National Qur’an Memorisation Competition Finals 1435/2014 at the Nizamiye Masjid in Midrand on Saturday, 21st June 2014.
The program will commence at 2pm with the main event, the complete Qur’an Category after Maghrib salaah.
Eighteen contestants qualified for the finals after winning their respective provincial competitions hosted by the SANQC earlier this year.
The adjudicators include some of the most senior reciters of the Noble Qur’an in South Africa, which include Qari Ayoob Essack, Qari Basheer Patel and Qari Ahmed Dhabelia.
Winners from each of the three categories will represent South Africa at the 38th King Abdul Aziz International Qur’an Memorisation Competition to be held inside the Haram in Makkah Al Mukhharrama, Saudi Arabia later this year, in addition to receiving prizes worth over R150,000.
Sheikh Khalid Ali Al-Ghamdi, the Imam and Khateeb of the Haram in Makkah Al-Mukharrama will be the guest of honor at the competition on the 21st June and is expected to lead both the Maghrib and Esha salaah.
Sheikh Al-Ghamdi will also lead the Jummah salaah on Friday the 20th June 2014 at the same venue.
This momentous occasion will also be attended by many government dignitaries, members of the diplomatic core and other community leaders.
