Luxmi Cash & Carry in Lenasia has dispelled rumors that it’s staff have contracted COVID-19 and that the store is closed.
A post being widely circulated on social media on Wednesday claims that three cashiers were infected with the virus and that the owners mother had also passed away from the pandemic.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Monty Devchand says the rumors being circulated is malicious and fake news.
“There’s been a lot of stories about COVID at our store at Luxmi’s. This is absolutely not true. We are taking all necessary precautions and if we do have a problem we will do the right thing. The safety of our staff and our customers are of paramount importance to us. We’ve been around for a long time and we would not behave in an irresponsible fashion.”
Devchand also confirmed that his mother is alive and well and urged the public to stop spreading fake news.
