August 12, 2013

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-08-12

Radio Islam’s Ramadaan drama Loving Life has certainly captivated listeners throughout South Africa and worldwide.

The drama focused on pertinent issues affecting society. Whether it was Suhail’s raging temper and abuse against Thaakirah, Yesmeen’s infidelity towards Imtiaaz, or the racial prejudice faced by Yumna, Ridwaan and Maaliha.

These problems are prevalent today and must be addressed to create awareness so that all those that are affected may be healed though compassion and guidance.

From the first episode Radio Islam received overwhelming and a plethora of feedback on Loving Life with some listeners stating that the drama reflected a mirror image of the problems they face on a daily basis.

One such is the case of an elderly lady that called Radio Islam after episode 16 played out on air. The episode focused on Suhail beating his wife Thaakira and his daughter Saajidah.

Mrs. Ebrahim*, who is an ardent loyal listener of Radio Islam and a fan of the drama series, stated the following:

”I just wanted to thank Radio Islam for a wonderful program–the drama series. I make dua to Allah that this is my big break through as I have been a victim of abuse for many years,” she said.

“Last night (31 July) on the drama series program when the guy (Suhail) was hitting his wife and screaming at her (Thaakirah), my husband –who was about to start his supper- sat there and just listened. When I told him to eat he just shook his head and carried on listening all the time just staring at his food not wanting to look at me out of shame,” added Mrs. Ebrahim

“When the program was over he raised his head and I noticed tears running down his face he went to the bathroom spending about five minutes washing his face.”

“He then returned to have his meal but before he did so he came up to me and hugged me and said he is really sorry for what he has done to me,” said Mrs. Ebrahim.

Loving Life has touched a lot of hearts. The drama was an eye opener for those that are in similar situations; to reflect and amend their ways before it’s too late.

May Allah (SWT) guide us, protect us and keep us on the straight path so that we may extract only the spiritual essence of this beautiful religion of Islam, Insha’Allah.
