Gauteng police say the looting of shops owned by foreign nationals has spread to other areas following the shooting of a teenage boy in Snake Park, near Dobsonville.
“Reports this morning are that attacks on shops owned by foreign nationals spread overnight to areas such as Emdeni, Zola and Protea Glen,” police spokesman Lt Kay Makhubela said.
It’s understood the shop owner shot the 14-year-old teenager and injured another when a group of boys attempted to rob his shop on Monday.
The teenager died at the scene and the injured was taken to hospital.
Makhubela said they’ve arrested several people in connection with last night’s incidents.
“The community members are also saying the foreign shop owners must move out from the area so they’ve been looting their properties. We’ve maintained the situation and managed to arrest some of the suspects.”
The shop owners packed up and loaded their goods on vehicles and Police escorted them out of Snake Park.
The shop owner arrested in connection with the teen’s murder is expected to appear in court later today.
