Local educators rewarded at the 22nd National Teaching Awards

Muslim teachers making the Muslim community proud with their dedication and knowledge

Radio Islam International speaks to teachers Ridwaan Saith and Yusuf Wadee who attained who represented the province at the 22nd National Teaching Awards and won prestigious awards for their Excellency.

Mr Saith has been an educator at the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Primary School, teaching grade 6 mathematics for five years, while Mr Wadee has completed seven years as a grade 5 mathematics educator. They have collaborated and shared ideas moving forward together.

According to Mr Saith, the school received its name from the Albert Lituli house before 2000. The President and Minister Kadar Amaljee changed the name from Azaadville Primary School to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Primary School.

The National Teachings awards occur yearly. Mr Wadee said they had been motivated and encouraged by colleagues and family members to participate.

The event comprises thirteen categories, of which Mr Saith and Wadee entered into the excellence in mathematics GET. Mr Saith said there are three rounds, the first being the district. The panel consisted of adjudicators from various teacher Union representatives from SADTU, NAPTOSA, etc.  

At the CSIR international convention centre in Pretoria, Ridwaan Saith and Yusuf Wadee were represented for the national teaching award, placing them second in the country regarding excellence in teaching mathematics.

Meanwhile, Mr Saith motivates the youth who want to pursue careers in the medical and education field.

“Allah has used the medicine and teaching as a means of guidance for many of the hands that go through them,” he says.
