By Umamah Bakharia

The Lenasia Muslim Association (LMA) opened a new madrassah in Swan Street, Extension 1, after being asked to vacate their previous location in 2020 at the Park Primary School due to covid-19 restrictions.

After almost one and a half years, the LMA madrassah finally found a home with the help of generous donors at a spacious 10 classroom building nestled right behind the Rainbow masjid.

Chairman of LMA, Iqbal Patel, explained that the association will no longer have to rely on state school facilities to provide maktab education to the community.

The madrassah will mainly consist of maktab classes from grade R until grade 10 with the aim of beginning hifz classes for women soon.

The opening event at the madrassah was attended by board members, eager teachers, and students who overlooked the building with broad smiles.

“We are so eager to provide good education and talim for our children,” says LMA principal, Moulana Khalid Pandor.

The LMA aims this year to open three new madrassahs’ this year: on Agapanthus avenue, in Lenasia South, and Eldorado Park.

The Association currently has 14 madrassah’s being run within the Lenasia, Lenasia South, and Eldorado Park districts.
